The Danes Complain Mainly About the Rain

23 Jul

At the risk of sounding stereotypically British, I would like to talk about the weather. Since it is summertime (see above picture) it’s quite common to hear the Danes complaining about how dreadful the weather is, and how much it rains, and so on. This is a view also shared by some non-Danes I know who hail from exotic places such as Iran and Mexico. However, coming as I do from Scotland and having spent more than ten years living in Glasgow, I would have to disagree. I think the weather in Denmark is brilliant.

The thing is, you actually get proper weather here. None of that sheep-hair-inducing, glorified condensation that kind of lingers all year round in Scotland. No. When it rains in Denmark, it really goes for it.

When the sun shines the temperature goes up, and sometimes this can go on for many days. It’s still a novelty for me to see any temperature reading starting with 3 and I am unable to resist taking a photo and smugly posting it on Facebook. Every time.

To illustrate my point, here is this week’s weather forecast for Glasgow:

And here’s the one for where I live in Denmark:

Yes, it rains during the summer in Denmark, but here’s the thing: it stops after a while. In between the rain showers, you get sunny intervals and it does tend to make things look rather beautiful.

Hver gang.

For at illustrere mit synspunkt er her  ugens vejrudsigt for Glasgow:
